Useful information starts with trust.
These standards guide Lake County Now reporting and explain how we approach sourcing, corrections and commercial relationships.
Accuracy and sourcing
LCN works to verify material facts before publication and distinguish confirmed information from claims, proposals, allegations and information that remains unverified. When available, primary records, official documents and direct sources are preferred.
Fairness and context
Coverage should provide readers the context needed to understand an issue without telling them what political or civic conclusion to reach. Material disputes, uncertainty and relevant responses are identified when they affect the story.
Corrections and updates
When LCN identifies a material error, the goal is to correct it promptly. Significant updates may be identified on the article so readers can understand what changed.
Advertising and editorial independence
Paid placements, sponsored business visibility and LCN Connect participation do not determine editorial coverage. Advertising and sponsored placements are labeled and kept separate from newsroom decisions.
