Mount Dora leaders spent last week taking one of their final detailed looks at the city's upcoming budget. The working citywide budget presented during the August 24 budget workshop totaled approximately $126.2 million. But that doesn't mean Mount Dora simply has $126 million available for general spending. The total includes the city's General Fund, utilities, restricted funds, capital projects and other dedicated accounts — many of which can only be used for specific purposes. Inside the General Fund, some of the largest spending areas presented were: 🚔 $8.3M — Law Enforcement 🚒 $5.3M — Fire Protection 🌳 $4.7M — Parks & Recreation 🏛️ $4.6M — Support Services 🚧 $3.0M — Public Works The proposed overall budget is currently about 7% lower than last year's, although city staff emphasized that some numbers were still being finalized. And there is another important distinction: ➡️ This is not yet Mount Dora's final adopted budget. Public budget hearings and final adoption still have to occur in September. Most residents see the finished tax bill.
