The City of Clermont has been studying options for a future downtown parking garage as increased activity, development and major events continue to put pressure on available parking. The city’s current capital improvement planning anticipates approximately $12.7 million for a 3–4 tier parking garage, although the final location, design and exact capacity have not yet been finalized. Earlier planning work evaluated several possible downtown locations, including the City Hall parking lot, while more recent discussions have continued to examine where a garage would make the most sense. And not everyone is sold on the idea. Some nearby businesses and residents have raised concerns about how a large parking structure could affect traffic, visibility and the overall character of Downtown Clermont.
