LCN REPORT | TAVARES
Tavares is asking residents to check their irrigation settings before clocks change Nov. 1. The city's new reminder comes while tighter water-shortage restrictions remain in place.
WHAT HAPPENED
In an Oct. 28 notice, the city urged residents in the St. Johns River Water Management District to check their assigned watering day, permitted hours and irrigation timer, and to water only when needed.
WHY IT MATTERS
The district's current Phase III guidance already limits affected properties to one landscape-irrigation day per week. The city's notice should not be read as permission to water twice weekly until Nov. 1.
Under that guidance, irrigation is prohibited between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The district also limits each zone to no more than one hour and three-quarters of an inch on its scheduled day.
WHO IT AFFECTS
The reminder is relevant to residents and property managers responsible for landscape irrigation. The district's Phase III schedule assigns Saturday to homes with odd-numbered or no addresses, Sunday to even-numbered homes, and Tuesday to nonresidential properties.
Lake County says most of the county lies within the St. Johns district. The county also lists subdivisions with approved alternative schedules, so residents should verify the rules for their particular property rather than assume one schedule applies everywhere.
WHAT CHANGES
Tavares has issued a timely reminder ahead of the clock change. Its notice does not announce a new water-shortage order or lift existing restrictions.
WHAT'S NEXT
Residents can check their timer and confirm their property's assigned day with their utility or water management district. Current shortage guidance should be checked alongside any ordinary seasonal schedule, especially where a property's approved schedule differs.
